law.
The people in the Middle Ages followed a very strict and brutal law system, those in charge believed that people would only learn how to behave properly if they feared what would happen to them if they broke the law. Living in the Middle Ages was very tough especially for the peasants. The peasants lived very unfairly, being very poor and lucky to own any land they had to pay the most tax and had to give 80% of what they had earn to the king. Although Medieval law and order was very unfair and prejudiced, there was surprisingly courts in the Medieval times. The three main courts were the church court, manor court and royal court. The church court gave out lighter sentences and could not sentence death, the manor court dealt with disputes between land and property as well as petty theft, public drunkenness and other small crimes and the royal court sentenced high crimes including murder, treason etc they could also sentence execution.
